Since it's been a minute that I did some real writing on here, no pics
just words in this post. Went to see Kick-Ass this weekend (hence the
pic in a previous entry). Kick-Ass is about regular peeps trying to be
super-heroes inspired by comicbooks. I'm not gonna put up a whole
review... If you want to know whats up just see the movie. It's a
blast! Now the concept of Kick-Ass comes from the comicbook that goes
by the same name! It's put out monthly on Marvel Comic's Icons
imprint. Mark Millar (remember him from the superbly written The
Ultimates) and it is pencilled by John Romita Jr. who is also known
for his great art in past issues of Incridible Hulk and Amazing Spider-
man. Soon he'll be drawing the new Avengers title (not the "New
Avengers" but the new "Avengers" title). The writing of this book is
the courtesy of Brian Michael Bendis so you can imagine I'm pretty
thrilled! Next up is Iron Man and clubwise Culture Club's 8 year
anniversary! Oh and since I'm not only a comicbooks connaisseur and my
good taste reaches further then great one-liners, awesome style,
nicely selected music and the most witty jokes, I'll be putting up
some great restaurants and bars I have discovered through time in the
wonderful city of Gent! But you can Thank Me Later for that, world!

Did I already say i went to method man a while ago? Petrol antwerp was the place where it all went down. Good show maybe because of the good talks with my boys. This Saturday I went to see Life Of Agony at the AB with Mentje Mentje Coussementje. Arriving a bit to late but still LOA preformed River Runs Red as a whole skits included. Next to that we were treated to some bonus tracks: Otherside of the river, Love to let you down, Weeds and Lost at 22. After that I went clubbin with my boys (hence the sneaker pic lower on this page). Monday was all about chillin on the block, sweet weather, working holiday, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, pizza, more pizza and Bad Lieutenant featuring Nicolas Cage. Great flick. Today was Mos Def don't feel like writing a whole review and shit but it was ok, maybe a bit too long yeah mos(t) def a bit too long, but still!

Me and some trainer II sb and Coussie B bringin' the ruckus rockin' some Vans Era he copped in Melbourne if i'm not mistaking it. Got together with this silky smooth rhymin' cat on tuesday to grab some veggie dogs at Tasty World in Ghent. Later on I met up with Vandeezy and MF_Dossche to check out DOOM at the VK. VIktor Vaughn is hands down a great lyricist and MC but the show was kinda hell to me. First off the show started almost two hours late and the crowd sucked. The crowd sucked in such a matter that they lacked all sense of style or respect for others in the venue smoking their little cigarettes or spilling their little beers on my precious garments. I mean if you claim to be into hiphop then make sure you got some substance and some class please. Oh and for the record my wheelchair ain't no coathanger.

Yesterday I met up with two respected gents and longstanding friends who go by the likes of Filip Von Doom and Bjorn Over Matter, all in favor of heading out to Terror and Madball in Köln. Both bands played pretty good sets and Freddy Madball is still convincing at fronting this NYHC powerhouse. Afterwards Von Doom was nice enough to lend out his couch for us to crash for couple hours. Unfortunately he woke us up way to early, so for now I'm gonna catch some Zs real quick and then meet up with Filip and Bjorn to get ill at some MF_Doom gig in BXL. Peace!

The previous video "Worlds" is the child of an amazing band called Farside. Farside was an Orange County based post-hardcore band . The original line up included Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine. When the band blew up he already been replaced by Michael "Popeye" Vogelsang. They released three LPs and one 7" (Keep Your Soul Awake) I know of, but I'm not sure if that's the only one. Their debut record Rochambeau (Revelation, 1992) revealed Michael "Popeye" Vogelsang's tortured persona and contains "Worlds" as first song. Afterwards they released Rigged (Revelation, 1994) and then the band went on a long hiatus. The band returned with The Monroe Doctrine (Revelation, 1999). This mature work boasts some of their best songs ever like "Moral Straightjacket", which also ended op on the sophomore Anti-matter compilation. The last tour being a european tour a month ago with another great band called Trapped Under Ice. I managed to catch two shows and I can assure you both bands wreck the stage completely. Hi to all my regular readers, it's been a while and i have to admit I've let you down, but now your up for a lil' treat. The next post is completely dedicated to hardcore and especially Rhythm To The Madness (RIP). A few weeks back at October, 17th to be precise legendary New Jersey straight edge outfit Floorpunch played at Trix, Antwerp. I've had been looking forward to that show for quite a while and I have to admit I feel kinda sorry I didn't catch more shows of the european tour they did with True Colors, cause I can assure y'all it was a night to remember. To set a mood, think Lintfabriek '04-'05 stylee. I felt great that night, the energy, the familiar faces, the friendships, everything! But this post ain't about Floorpunch, it's about a band palying their final show that night, Rhythm To The Madness. RTTM is a band that in my perspective never reached their full potential condidering all the music/urban metal they put out is truly exciting. So if you never heard of them get your hands on their demo, the Souldoubt 7" or the Weltschmertz LP. But next to putting out great music, RTTM also played an important role for me personally so it felt nostalgic and monumental to say goodbye to RTTM that night. A short recap about RTTM on a personal level. Things started out with a 2-song demo and regular guest appearances during Justice sets here and about. Later on when they started playing their own shows an important phase to me was the Cold World/RTTM UK weekend tour at the end of 2007. Not only for music but more importantly for friendship. Let me explain: I managed to go overseas to the UK with some of my closest friends (Arne, Kevin and Wouter) to catch two out of three shows, another great friend Filip aka Backtrack was roaddogging for RTTM and I kinda got to know Bjorn (Rise And Fall) who has become one of my certified homeboys. So friendship being the keyword in all this the next step in the story is the writing of their sophomore LP. Klaas the singer in RTTM was kind enough to include a couple of my lyrics in one of their songs and name their record after my at the time MSN nickname. The final step in the story is when RTTM decided to take this paraplegic prick with them on a three-week tour with Blacklisted during summer '09. Great times and again a lot of my current friends were involved. To honor the memory and the value of friendship, life and experiences like these I will end with a Youth Of Today quote and a shout out to RTTM. Thanks y'all.

Although some people got lucky an received a pre-order yesterday due to a mistake by Amzon.com. Google it for the full story. So if we're lucky the album is already up for illegal download on the world wide web. But back to "drop the world", great song if you ask me, catchy beat and interesting verses laid down by both artists. The Ontological Paradox

I recently saw Donnie Darko for like the twentieth time and i must admit I love movies/stories based on time travel like The Terminator Trilogy, Back To The Future Trilogy and the one I already named. These movies and a general interest in the science/philosophy behind time-travel made me think about how these story arcs come to effect and how nicely they are created and what makes them initially possible, if time-travel would be possible. Most of these arcs are build around the theory of the "ontological paradox" shortly explained as the time-traveler not changing the future but simply being part of history by creating a consistent loop. Like if the machines in Terminator wouldn't have travelled back in time to kill John Connor before he was born then Kyle Reese wouldn't have travelled to the eighties and would never impregnated Sarah Connor. So the machine traveling back isn't traveling back to change history just to play it's part in history, by not only helping a hand in the conceiving of John Connor, but also by providing the initial chip on which skynet is created. So lets put things together and add some science. Machine travels back creating the blueprint for Skynet and causing the time travel of Kyle Reese causing the birth of John Connor who rebels against Skynet causing the machine to travel back in time. Since beginning and end are the same we conclude that these events are part of a loop, a consistent loop that is. If time-traveling was possible the only loops created would be consistent because a time traveler attempting to alter the past in this model, intentionally or not, would only be fulfilling his role in creating history and not changing it. The Novikov self-consistency principle proposes that contradictory causal loops (like the son travelling back to kill his father before he was conceived) cannot form, but that consistent ones can. We can find similar examples in the other movies mentioned, Heroes, comicbooks or within the terminator trilogy itself. Think about it!

Next week we welcome James Cameron's Avatar in Belgian theatres! Pretty stoked on this one since James Cameron is the mastermind behind some of my all-time fav movies like Terminator, T2, The Abyss and Aliens. Cameron is also working on an adaptation of Battle Angel and will produce trilogies for both his new projects if the first one gets picked up by the audience.

Last few posts were all about crunk muzik so now it's time for some True Norwegian Black Metal. I have always enjoyed the rustling sounds of Burzum's "Filosofem" or Mount Eerie's "Wind's Poem" and had a love for metal in general. With this in mind i headed out to Satyricon playing Hof Ter Loo yesterday. Got there in time of the second band that didn't convince me at all. The band playing next was The Shining (or Shining not sure), fairly entertaining show with a front man as deranged as Neglect's Brian. Finally Satyricon took the stage. Since I only listened to the norwegians last album called "Age Of Nero" I didn't know all too much of the songs they played. It was a very energetic and theatrical show which kept it interesting for the entire hour and a half they preformed. Satyr is definitely an extraordinary songwriter and frontman. Shout outs to Gert and Satyr for the great night and Stief for the ticket! Now I'm checking out one of their other sophomore albums titled "Nemesis Divina".

To wrap things up: rolled out to some very favorable Rise And Fall shows last week, copped some Clarks Desert Boots (Ebony Dark) and I am also checking out the new Blacklisted record "No one deserves to be here more than me" as we speak.

The Carter Documentary dropped this week, check it out! I heard from lots of people with different opinions on Weezy they really enjoyed it so don't be a little arty farty bitch and go check it out. It's an honest and sometimes confronting piece of film that helps us get in the mind and world of one of the greatest icons of the current state of hiphop and music in general.

In the movie we hear an amazing verse of a yet unreleased song that has been recorded for several years. The song is called "30 Minutes to New Orleans". Check it out below:

Next to Weezy F. we will also have to miss Gucci Mane for a year... Gucci's latest effort (ironically called The State vs. Radric Davis) is dropping december 8th same date as the new Clipse LP. The three singles released up to now get me very siked about this release.

Birdman's Pricele$$ LP was supposed to hit the shelves in a couple of days november 23th to be precise, but it all ready got leaked on the web. It contains 13 tracks of pure Ca$h Money energy, guests include most notably Weezy (off course), T-pain, Kevin Rudolf and Drake. It's nice to hear Drake on a couple of tracks, the track with Rudolf is a legit clubbanger with a slight electro touch to it. It's a legit Birdman record, kinda at the same level as 5* stunna but with a significant '09 vibe to it and no skits but that shit don't matter.

It's supposed to be like Entourage but set at the eastcoast! This HBO project is about two up-and-comers in their 20's living in New York City and striving to achieve the American dream. The Simple Life

Today could best be described as just simple. Simple is a good thing. I was supposed to head out to Dinosaur Jr but since the show was already sold out I ended up going to a Rise And Fall show in Bruges. My boy Kevin picked me up around 5pm we headed out to his place to grab some dinner and wait for his girl Sanne. We had a home-made italian dish for dinner prepped by my the mister and misses of the house and headed out to the show. Got there around 9. Had some talks about sneakers, Mozzer, sudden crimewaves in Ghent and watched Rise And Fall. Enjoyable set! Check out their new record. Later on I got some yoghurt at the "Vooruit". We finally wrapped things up around 1am and now five hours later i'm still up and awake. Listening to some Mobb Deep, Farside, Youth Of Today and Mastodon and browsing the net for useless information about vintage polo gear, comicbooks and Lil Wayne trivia. I love things that don't lead up to anything big. I hate maturing up. I like simple.

Yo whats good these days?

New KiD CuDi record Man On The Moon: The End Of The Day is pretty sweet. It has this cinematic approach to it. Verry favorable! Didn't like it rightaway but once I got in the vibe I definitly had to put this on my list of 2009s greatest recs. Blueprint 3 and OB4CL2 didn't meet up to my expectations.

Couple of weeks back I headed out to woods once more for Pukkelpop. Saw (and liked) Dinosaur Jr, 50cent, Life Of Agony and The Arctic Monkeys. Probably catching Dinosaur Jr at Leffinge Leure festival this saturday. I also managed to peep RZL DZL and War Hungry twice past few weeks. Once in Trix, Antwerp and Light In The Dark-fest, Germany. Love both bands. RZL DZL has some of the best imagery for their records (courtesy of thetok) and is like this partycore band that reminds me of the Beastie Boys in a way. New 7" coming up! War Hungry play a more heavy style of hardcore, I especially like the last 7" and the split they did with Cold World. Currently writing an LP. Check them both out on Myspace!
